New Discovery Journal!
Christian Discoveries is thrilled to introduce our new Discovery Journal! Please
read below for more information on this exciting new addition to our curriculum.
A new and improved tool
The new Christian Discoveries Discovery Journal will provide powerful ways to engage students and help them grow intellectually and spiritually while developing leadership and critical thinking skills.
This new Discovery Journal is a better tool than we have ever had before, and it allows groups to continue to accomplish a timeless mission. As it says in Psalm 78, “We will not conceal it from their children, But tell the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done." The Discovery Journal was created through a collaboration between our wonderful Account Managers, our Director of Education, and our talented Christian Discoveries Course Leaders.
Overview
Christian Discoveries has had a heart for God and for students for many years. Through our travel programs, we have always sought to help students understand our God-given heritage and encouraged students to grow in their faith while on their programs. Our new Discovery Journal represents a richer and more vibrant tool for your students to use to help them accomplish just that.
As we worked to put the Discovery Journal together, we came to realize that the many sites we visit can be grouped into four categories. These categories or themes give us an effective way to help students learn. The Discovery Journal is divided into the following four themes:
- A Christian View of War and the Military
- A Christian View of Remembering the Past
- A Christian View of Leadership
- A Christian View of Government
Each of these themes is significant on a Christian Discoveries program and has several sites on the program that relate to it. For example, the war and military section relates to sites such as the Arlington National Cemetery, the World War II Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial.
The four sections each contain general background information that addresses the topic as well as four interactive discoveries that examine a specific aspect of that larger theme. For example, the government section has the following four discoveries:
- Liberty Under God
- The Balance of Powers
- Christian Statesmanship
- Civic Responsibility
How to use the Discovery Journal
There are a variety of ways you can incorporate the new Discovery Journal into your curriculum. This journal will enhance the educational value during your program, but that isn't the only way that it can be used. You can have students complete sections of the journal in preparation for the program, or it may also be used as a follow-up after the program. The journal is even beneficial to students in your classroom who cannot participate in the program.
What excites us most about this Discovery Journal is that its designed to give students the most rewarding experiences with us possible. We think when this tool is put in the hands of excellent Christian educators, wonderful things can happen. We pray that God will use this new tool to deeply impact the lives of your students.
